West Michigan Roundup, Monday 3/8/21
It was a light Monday across West Michigan, but multiple great games still occurred. In a Wolverine Conference matchup Three Rivers snuck past Sturgis 51-48 to improve to 7-3, 6-2 in conference. In a non-conference game BC Lakeview won 61-57 over Harper Creek to improve to 7-3. Lakeview is an under the radar team that is very young with no senior starters and only one key senior in Cole Einhardt. Edwardsburg played a non-conference game against Coldwater and lost 64-51. Coldwater is a very talented team in the Interstate-8 conference with their only loss to Pennfield. Howardsville Christian hosted a White Pigeon team that had started the season (4-2). Howardsville Christian annihilated them winning 56-29 led by none other than Jason Jergens with 26 points.

Game I Attended: Lakeview 61, Harper Creek 57
(6-4) Harper Creek hosted (6-3) Lakeview last night in a non-conference game between the two Battle Creek schools. Lakeview jumped out to an early 16-3 lead controlling the offensive boards. Harper Creek was able to cut the deficit to 18-9 after one quarter. The Beavers of Harper Creek made a run to start the second quarter cutting the deficit to 5 points at 18-13 less than two minutes into the quarter. Lakeview answered with strong play from sophomore JaShaun Boggerty extending the lead back to twelve points at 29-17. Once again Harper Creek came back led by Ben Shafer with an and-1 and a three pointer to go into the half trailing 32-30. Harper Creek took their first lead of the game after a three from Ben Shafer to make the game 33-32 in the early third quarter. Towards the end of the third quarter Cole Einhardt and the Lakeview Spartans had an incredible run. Einhardt converted an and-1 then the Spartans put pressure on the inbounds, forced a turnover, and Einhardt converted another and-1. Following that sequence Lakeview forced another turnover off the inbounds and who else but Einhardt with his third straight and-1 to put the Spartans up 54-44. Neither team was able to score the first four minutes of the fourth quarter. Harper Creek started the quarter 0-8 from the field and Lakeviwe was held scoreless until the 3:00 mark. With 2:06 remaining in the game Harper Creek trailed 56-50 until a three pointer from Andrew Chantrenne cut the deficit to three points. Lakeview missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Harper Creek went down the court and scored making it a 56-55 game. Harper Creek was called for a foul in an attempt to corral a rebound and also called for a technical foul on the same play. That gave Lakeview some free throws, missing the 1-and-1 common foul, but split the pair of tech free throws. Lakeview led 57-55 and retained possession after the technical. They were fouled again and split both free throws once again leading 58-55. Harper Creek’s Marcus Ransom scored on a put-back to make it 58-57 Lakeview with :17 left.
