Game I Attended: Kalamazoo Central 64, Loy Norrix 59
In a rescheduled matchup from earlier in the season, Loy Norrix hosted Kalamazoo Central in a 4:15 pm matinee. K-Central jumped out to an early 18-8 lead after the first quarter led by senior guard Thomas Dillard IV with 8 points on 4-5 FG. Loy Norrix countered with a 9-2 run to start the second quarter sparked by Kobe Sackett and Zach Lacey off the bench. The deficit had been trimmed down to 20-17 as K-Central struggled to make anything early in the quarter. The Maroon Giants eventually found their stroke hitting a few shots to extend the lead back to 28-21 at halftime. In the third quarter K-Central seemed as though they were pulling away after a 9-2 run to lead 37-25 midway through the third quarter. Nearing the end of the quarter K-Central held their largest lead at 50-37 until Loy Norrix junior James Rocco drained a three to cut the deficit down to 10 points heading into the fourth quarter. It was Rocco once again in the fourth quarter with an and-one to pull Norrix within seven points at 50-43. A couple minutes later with 5:53 remaining a Kobe Sackett three-pointer pulled Norrix within two possessions at 52-48. A couple trips later Cedric Huntley knocked down a three-pointer for Norrix to make it a one possession game at 54-51 with just under five minutes remaining. K-Central led 57-54 with 1:28 remaining when Cedric Huntley was fouled and sent to the line for two free throws. Huntley was able to split the pair to make the score 57-55. K-Central’s Thomas Dillard answered with a layup to extend the lead back to two possessions at 59-55. Following that possession, Cedric Huntley was sent back to the line where he once again split a pair of free throws to make the score 59-56 with :34 left. Loy Norrix was forced to foul Thomas Dillard who made the first free throw and missed the second, but his teammate Hutch Ward was right there to secure the offensive rebound. The Maroon Giants knocked down both free throws to make it 62-56 and Loy Norrix missed on their next possession. K-Central was fouled once again and made both free throws and Cedric Huntley hit a three at the buzzer for Loy Norrix. K-Central came away with a 64-59 victory led by 25 points from senior Thomas Dillard. Scott Hughes added 15 points while Hutch Ward had 10 points. Loy Norrix was led by 14 points off the bench from Kobe Sackett and 10 points from Cedric Huntley that all came in the fourth quarter. K-Central will be back in action on Thursday hosting BC Central while Loy Norrix will travel to Charlotte on Tuesday.
